This project was based around the use of silicone and how to utilize it's unique material properties in alignment with the prompt "resistance and resilience". Inspired by the idea of nonlinear time, we were  interested in exploring restructuring the idea of temporal organs. What if the placenta was an “permanent” organ? What world would this exist in? What would it look like and what would the structure of this organ be like? These were some of the questions we sought to explore.
PROCESS
DEVELOPMENT
Using silicon as the primary material we did a series of material testing of embedding different materials within silicon to capture and augment this material’s natural propeties. From conductive yarn, to polyester tubing we mixed different thermochromatic powders to create a baseline of different cosmetic finishes to select from in making our final product.
